Here’s a cool fact, did you know the ancient Egyptians invented the 365-year calendar, this was to predict the yearly flooding’s of the Nile River. Talking about the river Nile, the Goddess Isis, who was known for being the Goddess of good fortune, the sea, and travel, created the river Nile through her tears by mourning the loss of her husband God Osiris, the Lord of death and rebirth, whilst trying to put together his shredded body parts as he was killed by his brother Seth, who was worshipped for his power and ability to create chaos and violent force. You can find out more information about the Gods and Goddesses on this page here.
Another cool fact is that the ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphs like we do with the alphabet. These were made up of symbols such as a feather representing “I” however 2 feathers represent the letter “y”, but then you have symbols such as a dung beetle representing “kheper”. A combination of these symbols would create a word and multiple of them would form into a form of text usually on parchment or inscribed on stone, such as sandstone in the pyramids. Did you also know that the great pyramids of Giza were built for Pharaoh Khufu, the tallest pyramid, Khufu’s son, Pharaoh Khafre, the middle size one and then Pharaoh Menkaure having the smallest one. However, the people who built these pyramids were not slaves, rather paid labourers. To find out more about monuments like these please go to our monuments page here.
